To display the Port Settings window, choose Configure
> Port Settings.
The Port Settings window provides configuration settings
for the switch ports. These settings determine how the switch ports
forward data to the devices to which they are connected. You can change
these settings to fit your network needs.
You can sort the contents in each table column either
alphabetically or numerically. To sort a table column, click the column
heading.
To save any changes that you make in this window,
click Submit. To discard any unsaved changes, click Cancel.
Port
|
The number of the switch port, including
port type (such as Fa for Fast Ethernet and Gi for Gigabit Ethernet),
the module slot number (0, 1, or 2), and the specific port number. The internal 100-Mb/s
management port (also referred to as the Ethernet Management port) is Fa0.
See the switch hardware and software documentation
for more information about using these ports on the switch:
Console port
Internal 100-Mb/s
management port
Internal
1000-Mb/s downlink ports
Internal
1000-Mb/s cross-connection ports
External
small-form factor (SFP) module ports
External
10/100/1000-Mb/s uplink ports
Stack ports
Note: Internal ports cannot be configured.

Description
|
The description of the switch port.
The limit is 18 characters.
|
Enabled
|
The state of the switch port. Check
Enabled to enable the port. Uncheck Enabled to administratively
(manually) shut down the port.
|
Speed
|
The operating speed of the switch
port. Choose the speed from the drop-down list. You can choose Auto
(autonegotiation) if the connected device can negotiate the link speed
with the switch port. The default is Auto.
The default settings are:
100 for the internal
100-Mb/s management port
1000 for the internal
1000-Mb/s ports
1000 for the internal cross-connect ports
Auto for the external
SFP module ports
Auto for the external
10/100/1000-Mb/s uplink ports
Note: You cannot change the speed setting
on the internal ports.
Flow control does not apply to the internal ports.
Note: By using the Network Assistant or the switch command-line
interface (CLI), you can configure the internal/external
dual-purpose 1000-Mb/s cross-connect ports to operate as either internal
or external ports. If these ports are configured as external ports,
you can change their speed setting.
|
Duplex
|
The duplex mode of the switch port.
The default is Auto.
Choose the duplex mode from the drop-down list:
Auto (autonegotiation)
if the connected device can negotiate with the switch
Full (full duplex)
if both devices can send data at the same time
Half (half duplex)
if one or both devices cannot send data at the same time
Note: On Gigabit Ethernet ports only,
you cannot set the port to half duplex if the port speed is set to Auto.
The default settings are:
Full for the internal
100-Mb/s management port
Full for the internal
1000-Mb/s ports
Full for the internal cross-connect ports
Auto for the external
SFP module ports
Auto for the external
10/100/1000-Mb/s uplink ports
Note: You cannot change the duplex mode
on the internal ports.
Note: By using the Network Assistant or the switch command-line
interface (CLI), you can configure the internal/external
dual-purpose 1000-Mb/s cross-connect ports to operate as either internal
or external ports. If these ports are configured as external ports,
you can change their duplex mode.
